Rome was attacked by “thugs” and for 3 days was occupied by the unwelcomed guest.
Alaric attacked Rome since he was passed over from a promotion within Rome, turned from friend to foe. Alaric’s men surround the outside of Rome and they died from the within their own wall. They would starve. Two years of suffering and they turned to cannibalism. The doors were finally open and Rome was attacked and left on “life support”.
As the Roman Empire started to die, they needed foreign missionaries. Roman’s became more hostile towards foreign and would try dog meat for Goth children.
Alaric died in 410 after his attack.
Roman fell and the Dark Ages arose, and intelligence decreased. Water systems changed from aqueducts back to wells. Roman architecture became less impressive. Magnificent Roman’s buildings would be torn apart for building materials.
Continent was fragmented and would unify under religion such as monks. On Christmas day, Clovis gave up his Pagan ways from Catholic belief, but not only his belief but also the beliefs of his people.
In 313 the emperor Constantine converted to Christianity since seeing the Christ symbol and wining power.
Holy wars were fought after Clovis baptism. When conquering lands, he would take captives and gave them the same status as his men, and recruited them to his army. He had any family members outside his immediate family eliminated.

533 AD the Empire strikes back, Justinian and his Roman army marched toward Constantinople to try to regain their land.
East and the West Empire were different culturally but in the 3rd century, it turned politically, splitting the nation.
Justinian became emperor in 572, and had the vision of a resembled empire, and would rely on trickery to gain money
Many Justinians’ haters tried to kill him, and he tried to run away, but Theodora refused to leave. Justinian was so in love with Theodora, so he stayed and called in the shocked troops and killed them all.
542 his domain extended farther than any other from the last 2 centuries, the black plague was being spread, arrived via cargo ship in fleas that rat carried. Affected the emperor, but survived and affected his body and his mind. Up to half the empire was affected by Justinian plague. In 542 the autumn wind brought an end to the plague.
In 548 Theodora died of cancer, and Justinian lived 17 years long and along with him went his dream since they could not fund this dream.

Life was hard to sustain. Most children would die, or not have both parents till adulthood.
In 7th century there was barely anyone outside the clergy who was literate.
